About Splash Mountain Hawaii
What is Splash Mountain Hawaii?
Splash Mountain Hawaii, is a family owned, private venue and pool rental on the beautiful East side (Hilo) of the Big Island. It is located in a private and gated community. The venue is perfect for birthday parties, wedding receptions, baby showers or just family’s looking for a private swim.
We decorate for most holidays even if it is just hanging a banner. However, we do tend to go a little overboard for both Halloween and Christmas. In other words, if you like those two holidays, then you should like our decorations during those months.
Our ohana would love the opportunity to share our private oasis with you. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
About Us
A Little History About Us
Our family lived in Leilani Estates and we often joked about putting a swimming pool in our home there. It was always just a joke and never given a second thought. 2018 rolled around and we lost our home in the eruption. We looked all over the island trying to find a place to live and started looking at homes with swimming pools. My wife was fortunate enough to find a house for sale that we liked and could afford about eight (8) or nine (9) months after we lost our home. Our house in Leilani would have been paid off in 2023.
I asked my wife if she would like a pool as we now have a house payment until I am almost 80 years old. She asked me if I was serious and I said “Absolutely! We were looking for homes with a swimming pool and we have joked about one for years.”. It was probably still a little PTSD from the eruption and trying to gain back some sanity and control in our lives that led to us building a pool. I drew up the designs and a little over two years later our pool was complete.
We don’t regret it one bit. We are making priceless family memories and it is something our children absolutely love and will be engrained in their memories forever.
We had some friends over for a swim and one of the mothers said we should rent the pool out. She said it was like we had our own private waterpark and people would rent our space. For liability reasons, I didn’t give that a second thought. With my wife’s interest peaked, she did some research on-line and she found Swimply. They allow you to rent out your pool and it includes insurance. She shared the information with me and well, here we are.
How did we get the name Splash Mountain Hawaii? My wife and I were trying to come up with a name. One day, one of the pool builders commented to us “You have Splash Mountain” right in your yard. I liked the sound of that so we agreed to call it “Splash Mountain Hawaii”.
Now that you have a little useless history on Splash Mountain Hawaii, let’s get into the rental and the grounds of the property.
About the pool
The Pool
The lanai, deck and pool consist of a little over 6,000 square feet of useable space. That square footage does not take into account the surrounding yard. The pool itself is 50,000 gallons of solar heated, salt water. There are two slides on the mountain. One slide is a superfast, 24’ open slide. The other is a tube slide that goes right through Splash Mountain Hawaii. There is also a waterfall that you can walk up to, then down to the little pond and jump into the 8’ deep end.
There is a 21’ x 13’ Baja Shelf (some people refer to it as a tanning ledge) that is about 12” deep. This is a great location for just relaxing or allowing the little ones to get acquainted with the water. There are steps from the Baja shelf leading down to the 4’ section. The 4’ deep section is the largest portion of the pool. It also has a bench that sprawls the complete length of the 4’ section. This is an absolutely great place to sit in the water and relax or watch the kiddos swim.
There is a bump out in the 8' deep section that allows you to easily get out to have quicker access back up the stairs to the slides and the waterfall.
About the Lanai
The Lanai
The lanai is 750 square feet of covered space. It includes a 55 smart TV with multiple inputs and preprogrammed for Amazon Prime, Disney+, HBOMax, and Spectrum Cable TV. You can use it to catch your favorite game so you don't miss the highlights during your swim. The TV is wall mounted and can be pulled from the wall and positioned so it is viewable from anywhere on the lanai.
In addition to the smart TV this is also where you will find the ION total PA Prime 500 Watt Bluetooth speaker system. You can link it to Alexa to play your favorite tunes. It even comes with a microphone (upon request) if you need to make a presentation or a speech, say at a wedding reception.
Also on the lanai you will find two huge fans (6’ wing span). I refer to these fans as hurricane fans as the put off some serious windage on high-speed.
There is one aluminum table that seats six (6), one aluminum lunch table that seats two (2), a small couch and end table. We also have additional six (6) foot folding tables available if needed.
The lanai is also where you will find both the propane firepit and the propane grill. Both of which are considered premium amenities.
